PRODUCT DEACTIVATION/DELIST: UNDERSTANDING ITS PROCESSES
It seems rather unsettling to discover that your products are not visible or listed on the website because the end goal of every product listed is to make sales. If you are facing these issues or intend to avoid such, this piece will further enlighten you.
So, grab a pen.
Sellers should know that Jumia’s promise to “win the love of customers” is centered around providing genuine products and when this is breached, products are either deactivated or delisted.
Fair enough, right?
What is product deactivation/delist?
Product delisting simply means the direct implication of breaching the Listing Guidelines of products which could lead to taking the products off the Seller Center and losing their visibility on the website.
Product deactivation entails turning off a product’s online status. When products are turned off, they become inactive, hence they have no visibility. This action could be done by a Seller to save a product for future sales, and it is not necessarily a result of breaching the Listing Guidelines.
Here’s a list of reasons why products are delisted;
High return rate – products that have a high percentage of return fall under this category, and eventually get delisted as this could mean the seller is not providing products that meet the customer’s satisfaction.
- Counterfeit & infringing SKUs – Products that are made in the exact imitation of something valuable with the intention to deceive or defraud are called Counterfeits and Products that do not conform to the Product Sales Laws and Guidelines of a company or Country relating to the Intellectual Property of the Product or Brand are called Infringements. Any Product that breaches the Counterfeit and Infringement Guidelines will be delisted. These are discovered and flagged during the on-site cleanups and Vendor Drop Off Center Product Checks done by the Quality Control Team. A Doc has been created and added to Seller Center for vendors to get familiar with the top Luxury Brand Logo. Find link here
- Trademark requests from distributors and manufacturers – All Products and Brands reserve the right to the exclusivity of their Trademarks. This gives them the right to directly request for restriction of all brand-related attributes. When this is done, the brand and all its attributes are restricted to the Manufacturer or Distributor. Hence, all other products that do not possess exclusivity to list this brand will be delisted.
- Ban/unauthorization of products or brands from the Jumia database – We have a database that restricts or forbids specific products or brands from the website, and when products like these are noticed, they get delisted.
How do you know a product has been delisted?
It is inactive on the Seller Center and it is not visible on the website. This means it becomes out of view for any buyer on the website and the approval symbol displays “X” and shows the comment “product not authorized. ”
Thus, only the seller can see the product’s status on the Seller Center.
What channel do sellers get notifications when products are delisted?
Communications are sent via emails to sellers to notify them of the status of specific products. This is usually controlled by the Vendor Experience Team.
What to do in order to relist a delisted product?
Sellers can “Raise A Claim” on Seller Center and the Vendor Experience Team escalates it. Once reviewed, they are notified of a relist. Raising a claim is making known to us that a specific product lacks visibility or can’t be found.
I hope you took note of all these processes, it might seem like a lot, but it’s a business after all.
