In the e-commerce landscape, Jumia has always pushed to ensure that customer’s safety are protected from the sale of unsafe products. Therefore, prohibited products are products that may never be sold on the platform because of their severity.

What are prohibited products?

Prohibited products are banned on Jumia for health, environment, security, and legislation. They vary depending on the market and laws. 

Jumia’s policy on prohibited products is designed to keep our customers’ trust and protect them from the sale of unsafe, illegal, or unlicensed products. 

In a bid to ensure that these products do not tamper with our purpose, seller and customer retention, it is therefore important to state the categories of products that are prohibited on Jumia.

Here is a breakdown of prohibited products banned on Jumia:

These category of products are banned for health, security, and environmental reasons, which could be due to their harmful tendencies and infringement of intellectual property rights.

A major prohibited product that has been of great concern in recent times are prescription medicines. 

These medicines can only be obtained by a patient with the written permission of a licensed health professional. Pain relievers, stimulants, sedatives, etc. that should be prescribed are prohibited on Jumia in its entirety. Medicines such as Augmentin, Fluconazole, Ibuprofen and Anti fungal creams such as Hydrocortisone, Ketoconazol, Clotrimazole Cream, etc. are banned in its entirety and should not be listed.

Penalties

At Jumia, we support our sellers to ensure that there are no prohibited products listed on the website. However, it is important to know the following penalties may apply in the event that the policy is violated:

• If a seller lists a prohibited product, the product is delisted immediately.
• If a seller persists in listing a prohibited product, the store risks a delist action.
• If a seller lists a prescription medication, the store is immediately delisted.
• Sellers are reported to regulatory agencies for listing prohibited products.
